Prerequisite or Do’s and Dont’s before taking Ultrasound investigations?

You should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for your ultrasound exam. You may need to remove or retract clothing and jewellery in the area to be examined.

You may be asked to wear a gown during the procedure if needed.

What prerequisites are there for X-rays & It’s procedures?

For Simple X- rays,  you will be advised to remove any metal or plastic materials  in the part which have to be examined.. For chest X-ray, person should also  come with plain dress without any type of work on these clothes… There is no need for any other preparation for simple X-rays.

For X -ray procedures like, Barium studies (barium swallow, meal, meal follow up) you should avoid eating food for eight to ten hours before the test to avoid gas build up in the intestines… You can take only half cup of plain water, lemon / coconut water, juice, non -milk tea/ coffee before 4 hours before examination…for certain examinations, you may be asked to remove clothes from the examining part  also one should come with extra pair of clothes if child is going to be being examined.  After Barium studies, one may experience pink color stool for 1-3 days due to ingestion of barium which is normal for this procedure…

What should I take care for before coming for Sonography of an Abdomen?

For Sonography of Liver, Gallbladder, Spleen and Pancreas, you may be asked to eat a fat-free meal on the evening before the test and then to avoid eating food for six to eight hours before the test to avoid gas build up in the intestines and gall bladder contraction.. You can take plain water, lemon / coconut water, juice, non -milk tea/ coffee before examination…but not milk or milk used items.

What should I take care for before coming for Sonography of Kidney / Pelvis?

For ultrasound of the Kidneys / Pelvis , you may be asked to drink four to six glasses of liquid about an hour before the test to fill your urinary bladder and try to hold urine for half to one hour before coming for examination. You should avoid eating for six to eight  hours before the test if Kidney Doppler examination is to be performed.

What prerequisites are there for Xray of Pregnant Women?

Pregnant women should inform before any X-rays or its related procedures or should not enter into X-ray room…as X-rays produced ionizing radiation which may harm fetus.
